Victorian Community Advocate

Melissa is a mum of two from the Surfcoast of Victoria who has become a dedicated advocate for more education about the harms associated with prescription medications. Melissa lost her 35-year-old husband in 2016 after his 10-month struggle with prescription medication dependence. Melissa’s husband became dependent on a combination of prescription opioids and benzodiazepines after he suffered a back injury at work. The devastating consequences of this loss for her family has led Melissa to share her story to help reduce the stigma around seeking help and prevent other families from experiencing the devastating effects of prescription medication overdose.
