Help us prevent more families

from losing a loved one to

prescription medication use

Kim’s story

Kim Ledger lost his son, the beloved actor Heath Ledger, to an accidental overdose death due to a fatal combination of prescription medications.

Tragically, Kim is on one of thousands of Australians who have lost a loved one to certain high-risk medications such as opioids or sleeping tablets. In 2016, prescription medication related overdose deaths outnumbered Australia’s road toll.

Kim became ScriptWise’s Founding Patron out of a desire to ensure no more families experience this loss. ScriptWise is the only organisation dedicated solely to reducing prescription medication related deaths in Australia. We are dedicated to preventing more harms by raising awareness about the risks, reducing stigma around seeking help and advocating for essential policy changes.

As a non-profit organisation, ScriptWise relies on the generosity of our supporters to raise awareness and advocate for policy changes to prevent

more harm.

Make a difference.

We all know someone who’s struggled with their medication use or is having trouble managing their pain or anxiety issues long-term.

You donation will ensure ScriptWise can:

+ help make sure every person knows the potential risks of using medications such as opioids or benzodiazepines

+ reduce the stigma around seeking help and provide community members with information about effective treatment and how to access it

+ drive essential policy and legislative change such as a national real-time prescription monitoring system and increasing access to, and the affordability of, essential treatment services.
