About Us

Who are we

ScriptWise is a non-profit organisation dedicated to reducing prescription medication misuse and overdose fatalities in Australia.

We formed in 2014 to amplify the voices of the alarming number of families and individuals affected by the misuse of prescription drugs. From 2008-2014 alone, there was an 87 percent increase in the number of prescription opioid deaths in Australia.

We work with our partners and those personally affected to help increase health literacy and to advocate for essential health interventions to ensure Australians can achieve a better quality of life.

Together we will ensure reducing and preventing prescription medication misuse is recognised as a priority health issue in Australia.

Our purpose

We aim to educate all Australians around the safe and effective use of their medications

Our focus

We focus on addressing the root causes of this complex and multifaceted issue through primary interventions such as:

  • engaging and educating local communities on the safe and effective use of prescription medications
  • supporting health professionals and prescribers to ensure guidelines are in place for better prescription and referral to treatment and/or support services for patients at risk of addiction
  • collaborating to shape policy solutions that help improve Australians’ quality of life such as the implementation of an effective real-time prescription monitoring system across Australia, and
  • conducting research to understand what’s leading to the misuse of prescription medications.

Through public education and public health interventions, we are certain that the overall impact of misuse and overdose relating to prescription medications can be minimised.

Our funding

ScriptWise is funded almost entirely by corporations, donations and non-government grants.
